Who We Are
Craft Builders was founded on a simple conviction: the finest homes are best designed and built by one team.
We are a design–build firm in the Flathead Valley. We carry a home from first sketch to final walk-through — one team, one standard, one point of accountability. There is no hand-off, because there is no one to hand it to.
We are also, deliberately, a small firm. We take on a limited number of homes at a time so that the person whose name is on the door is on your site.

Sixteen years in construction management. The last nine building high-end custom homes.
Chris Craft has spent his entire career in construction. He grew up in the industry — working summers on his father's crews through high school — and launched his first company at twenty-three. Sixteen years in construction management have followed, the last nine focused on high-end custom homes.
His approach was forged in Houston, Texas, one of the most competitive and heavily regulated building environments in the country. Permitting, inspections, and code allow no margin for improvisation there, and clients expect it all handled without friction. That environment demanded disciplined systems and relentless efficiency — and it made him methodical, exacting, and difficult to surprise.
He brought those tools to Northwest Montana, a place he chose. Craft Builders exists to put that same rigor to work in the Flathead Valley. As a design–build firm, it carries a home from the earliest design decisions through final construction under one roof, self-performing much of the work through its sister company, Apex. The belief underneath it is simple: the clarity, coordination, and cost control clients deserve come from one team owning the entire process, rather than handing it between many.
Chris is known for a steady, measured approach and the ability to navigate complexity without unnecessary friction. The result is a more controlled experience and a better-built home.

Why We Self-Perform
The typical luxury builder is a broker. Every scope on your home is bid out, handed off, and coordinated by phone. When something goes wrong between two subcontractors, it goes wrong in the gap between them — and the gap is where your budget and your schedule quietly disappear.
Through our sister company, Apex, we self-perform the early and structural work ourselves: excavation, concrete, framing, and siding. Our own crews. Our own equipment. Our own standard.
It means the foundation your home stands on was poured by people we employ, not people we called. It means when the schedule needs to move, we move it. And it means the number we gave you at the start was built from the inside, by the people who would have to live with it. See the homes it has built.

How We Work
Every subcontractor bid we receive, you receive. Every allowance is a real number from a real quote — not a placeholder that becomes a change order in month seven.
A written schedule before we break ground, and an honest one. If it moves, you hear it from us first, and you hear why.
We build four homes a year. Yours is not one of thirty. The founder is on your site, and he knows your drawings.
This Ground
The Flathead does not forgive a generic building. Snow loads that punish a lazy roof. Frost depths that punish a shallow footing. Rock where you wanted a basement. A building season that closes early and does not negotiate. Lakeshore and county setbacks that turn a beautiful site plan into a year of waiting if no one read them first.
We plan for all of it before a drawing is finished — because the cheapest place to solve a Montana problem is on paper.

Design Partner · Founder & Principal, Mineau Architecture
Taylor is the founder and principal architect of Mineau Architecture, a Whitefish studio devoted to custom residential work, and Craft Builders' design partner. His work explores the relationship between people, place, and the built environment — homes that feel authentic to the people who live in them and to the landscape that holds them.
He draws it. We build it. Nothing is lost in between.
Project Manager
Conrad has spent his entire career in construction, the last decade running projects from the ground up. He has done nearly every job on a site before running one, and it shows in how he runs one.
Complex homes generate hard questions daily. Conrad is the one who sees around the corner, finds the answer, and keeps the work moving without noise or drama.

Ultra-luxury custom construction in the Flathead Valley typically begins in the low seven figures and can rise well beyond depending on lakefront access, structural complexity, and material selections. We build a real, transparent budget during preconstruction — before any commitment — so you understand true cost long before ground is broken.
We serve the entire Flathead Valley and surrounding Flathead County — Whitefish, Kalispell, Columbia Falls, Bigfork, Lakeside, Somers, and Martin City — along with lakefront parcels on Flathead Lake and Whitefish Lake and mountain sites at the gateway to Glacier National Park.

Yes. A significant portion of our work sits on Flathead Lake and Whitefish Lake shorelines. We design and build to the specific demands of lakefront parcels — setbacks, shoreline regulations, sight lines, water and light — so the home belongs to its lake as naturally as it belongs to the land behind it.
Timelines vary with size and complexity. A modest custom home typically takes twelve to eighteen months from groundbreaking to walk-through; larger ultra-luxury residences can run eighteen to twenty-four months or more. Design and preconstruction usually add several months ahead of construction. We hold to the schedule we give you during preconstruction.
